Student Services

M.W.C.E.A. provides programs and services to meet the individual learning needs of students show have mild, moderate, or severe disabilities and/or those who are gifted and talented.

First Nation values embrace the belief that all children can learn and reach their potential in an environment conducive to meeting their learning needs. For First Nation learners with special needs, learning environments must be based on the philosophy of holistic (mind, body, emotion and spirit) learning and inclusive of language/culture and parental/community involvement.

Student Services in M.W.C.E.A. provides a wide range of services aimed at supporting schools in their effort to successfully address the special needs students. More specifically, our Student Services staff work with the schools in the following areas:

  • Special needs assessment, needs identification and development of Individualized Program Plans (IPP);
  • Assistance in implementing program standards for students with special needs;
  • Placement of students with special needs;
  • Information on inservices and resources available for students with special needs;
  • Consultation and response teams for critical incidents; and
  • Partnering with other community agencies and support groups.
